We had a super time this week at Heartwood and it was quite busy on Tuesday as we welcomed a visitor /potential new student for a taster session. Everyone was very welcoming, including puppy Barley and they went home with a welly boot puller they had made and a smile on their face.
In the morning we gathered some more logs that had been coppiced, pallets were broken up, pallet wood sawn and split for firewood and the edging (finishing touches) on the water tank were put in place.
There was also a new addition to the polytunnel, a new table kindly donated by The National Trust shop at Birling Gap. Special thanks to the shop manager, Lisa Pearce, who offered it to us. It is a solid and sturdy table which gives excellent storage and surface space. Thank you!
We had a lovely group walk with Barley in the afternoon and there was even some winter sunshine to enjoy. We spotted several more signs of spring with the elder tree popping its leaves and the yellow catkins and scarlet flowers on the hazel tree.
On Wednesday, we worked hard on reorganising the back half of the polytunnel and made a start on building some under the counter shelving for storage. The back half of the polytunnel is looking great now!
Other activities we worked on were dismantling an old shed and breaking up the wood for firewood, completing the bird box and making a start at clearing a path that is very overgrown. This also involved Mark using the chainsaw to fell a fallen tree that was blocking the path. There’s still lots more path clearance to do.
