This week Sam brought some sheep fleece and carding brushes to the Heartwood Project so we could have a go at making some felted sheep wool balls. It was an interesting and therapeutic experience and the finished wool balls were very tactile and pleasing to hold.
A new mallet was started today made from holly wood. Holly is particularly hard and so was a challenge to split and shape but with a lot of perseverance it is taking shape. It will be used at another woodland project, called Nurture in Nature, for women with cancer. They will enjoy using it to split logs for kindling for the campfire.
After the exciting donation of timber from Copford Farm Sawmill last week, we spent the first part of the morning unloading the wood from the trailer and creating a dry timber area- the Heartwood team are great at group jobs!
Other activities that we enjoyed were pallet breaking, de-nailing, peeling and splitting the pallet wood. As well as continued work on the chopping board selection and making a start on a wetsuit boot and swimming glove rack for drying them. It was a busy and fun day.
