A Productive Summer Day at the Heartwood Project

It is full summer in the woods, and our latest session was packed with a wonderful variety of practical crafts, foraging, and woodland maintenance. To start the day, two of the team sanded and oiled a new picnic bench to protect it for outdoor use, and the final finishing touches were put on a brand-new tortoise home that is being gifted to a friend.

Taking advantage of the season, we successfully foraged for sweet chestnut flowers and yarrow, which we have set aside to dry for future teas. We also put together two bottles of sweet chestnut champagne,; it's a bit of an experiment.

We trimmed back the brambles and bracken to keep our pathways clear and safe from the heavy summer growth. We also moved ten pallets that had been gifted to us so we can break them down for future building projects. In the afternoon, the group enjoyed a relaxing afternoon walk over to the big oak tree in the nearby field, taking some time to enjoy the sunshine, surroundings and connect with nature.
