Puppy barley at Heartwood

The big news of the week is that Mark has got a puppy and it came to Heartwood. Puppy Barley was an absolute superstar and won everyone's hearts on his first day. We are so pleased to have a dog at Heartwood; most of the students were very keen to help look after Barley and he was very well behaved and extremely cute!

The new planter is now finished with a liner and we filled it with bio char and planted out the final leeks, kindly donated by Mark's mum. The slugs seem to have left fruit corner alone this week and Helen was delighted to see the tomatoes, runner beans, onions, leeks , broccoli, strawberries and potatoes growing so well.

The saw horse was painted with creosote to protect it from rotting and will be ready for the new project next week. Other activities were de-nailing some wood, moving logs, peeling poles for posts and splitting chestnut logs. It was a great day.

Next week we are on annual leave and the Heartwood Project is closed. We will be open as usual on Tuesday 21st August.
