Happy samhain!

Happy Samhain- this week we celebrated the traditional Celtic/pagan celebration of Samhain. It is now know as Halloween but before Trick or Treating it had a more nature based origin. Samhain marks the end of the pagan year and the end of the light half of the year and into the dark half. A Samhain fire would be lit to reflect the sun and give more light. All fires in households would be put out and then lit from the Samhain fire. To celebrate at Heartwood we shared Halloween cakes and baked cinnamon apples over the fire.

This week saw a new bug hotel being made, the planter was creosoted. We did a group job to move logs from where they'd been felled up to the kiln area and the last of the chopped firewood was stacked in the wood shed,

A back board is being fixed onto the work bench in the poly tunnel, it's almost finished and looks great!
