Elderflower cordial and visitors galore!

It was great to welcome a new member to The Heartwood Project community today. We also had two new people visit us to see whether they might like to join us too.

The day was filled with trying out different activities - some of it as a whole group - moving logs to the kiln area for future charcoal making and moving small logs to season for future firewood. people then chose how they wanted to spend their time, this included breaking up pallets, de-nailing, sawing and splitting the pallet wood for the fire. The larger intact pieces will be used for other woodworking projects. We also peeled chestnut poles and continued work on the small wood shed roof.

At the end of the day we made elderflower cordial using foraged elderflowers, lemons, sugar and water. It was delicious! A very refreshing Spring drink that can be made over the next couple of weeks while the flowers are out.

Remember that if you are foraging for any leaf, berry or flower to consume, always have someone with you who can confidently identify the plant or tree.
