We welcomed in Spring with the exciting discovery of the first frogspawn in our not pond pond. This is an old dugout area where it fills with water each winter but which gradually dries out. We will need to do a frogspawn rescue!
It was a fabulous warm and sunny day. Some of us even got to wearing T-shirts while we worked! Thankfully, it's really helping the land to dry up. Much less mud.
Whilst digging holes for the Bodger shed, we discovered some very interesting fungi which looked like caviar on sticks. It turned out to be the flowering stage of slime mushrooms.
To celebrate spring, we did some birch tapping and were thrilled to get a complete plastic bottle's worth in only 5 hours. This is a very special opportunity which you can do with Silver Birch for aonly around two weeks a year. It's hard to know exactly when but this year we hit the sweet spot. Everyone was keen to try drinking it and we decided it tasted like coconut water refreshing and a little sweet. Some of us even drank a few drops straight from the tree.
We had a fun walk in the afternoon with Barley and Twig and found some very deep puddles.
