Tuesday was another wonderful sunny spring day in the woods. We were delighted to see the stunning bluebells in full bloom, they are looking incredible! In the afternoon we went on a long walk together to enjoy the bluebells- they smelt so good too.
Work was started on a new mallet for the Nurture in Nature - woodland cancer support group that Helen and Sam run. It will be used for splitting logs and making kindling and will be greatly appreciated.
Some more work was done on bagging up the charcoal from the charcoal burn the other week. It is looking good and we are hoping for a bumper number of bags. We tended and watered the plants in Fruit Corner and the poly tunnel. Bark from a long chestnut pole was scraped and then peeled off in one long piece - this will be used to make woven bark baskets and the long pole is now the final post for the ongoing wood shelter.
On Wednesday we welcomed a new student and it was great to have them with us. The mallet was finished with some chiselling to the handle and sanding and it looks and feels great.
Mark donated an old pair of boots for us to use as planters in Fruit Corner, we chose to plant a lavender and a strawberry plant to give them new life.
Another planter has been started and good progress was made on it- lots of measuring, sawing, drilling and screwing. Supporting pieces were also added to the uprights on the wood shed project. It has been a good week.
