Harvesting peas and water

It was great to have our brilliant volunteer Sam back with us again this week. She shared some of her gardening advice and we were so pleased to harvest our very first peas and lettuce- both were so fresh and tasty! We did a bit of weeding and gave the tomatoes some sticks for support.
We are noticing how long the new bramble shoots are growing and we processed them to make cordage for bracelets. First we had to scrape off the thorns and then twist the outer fibres from the central stem. The fibres are strong and flexible and make good cordage.
Guttering and a water butt were attached to the roof of the timber store. Initially the water collected will be used for watering Fruit Corner but will eventually be used to top up a pond that we are planning to create as our next project. A pallet was dismantled and denailed for future woodworking projects and kindling. In the afternoon we went for a walk with Barley dog.
