It was a great day at Heartwood as we saw our first harvest from the planter. It was the broccoli that has been growing so well and was finally ready to eat. We fried it in garlic oil with salt and pepper and shared it at lunch- it was delicious! We planted the final onion sets this afternoon and were pleased to see that the onions planted last week have already started growing well.
The chain saw log trolley needed finishing off and one of our team worked very hard to do just that. It looks great and will be put to use very soon. Time was also spent making a folding saw horse from recycled pallet wood. This is for a new project starting in September and will be facilitated by Helen and Sam from The Heartwood Project. It is called 'Nurture in Nature' and is a woodland based cancer support group. The saw horse will be used by the participants once it is finished.
We always enjoy working as a team and moved some long logs up to the kiln area, as well as digging straw and charcoal. A couple of interesting chestnut poles were carefully peeled and will be used for the arms for the new chair.
